Shayuchong (沙鱼涌) used to be a port for salt trading in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to the 1930s, it was a very important port.
In 1983 the former Bao’an County People’s Government built two pavilions and a monument to commemorate the North Retreat. In 2011, a memorial wall was erected in honor of the commanders and fighters of the Dongjiang Guerrilla Column who sacrificed themselves during the North Retreat.
The shadow sculpture on the memorial wall shows the scene of the North Retreat and inscribes the list of those who fought in the North Retreat. It is a patriotic education base and an education base of Party history in Shenzhen.
