Basic Introduction

A coastal city in South China, Shenzhen is situated on the east bank of the Pearl River estuary, adjacent to Hong Kong. The city covers a total area of 1,997.47 square kilometers, By the end of 2019, its permanent resident population reached 13.4388 million, creating a GDP amount of over 2.69 trillion yuan in 2019.

Located in the southeast of Shenzhen, Dapeng New District is surrounded by sea on three sides, adjoining Daya Bay to the east and Dapeng Bay to the west, and facing Hong Kong from a distance. The District covers an area of 607 square kilometers including 302 square kilometers of land, about one sixth of Shenzhen's land area; and 305 square kilometers of sea, about a quarter of Shenzhen's sea area. The coastline stretches for 133.22 square kilometers, exceeding half of the total length of Shenzhen's coastline. There are three subdistricts, namely, Kuichong, Dapeng and Nan'ao and 25 neighborhoods, with a total permanent resident population of nearly 200,000 and a registered population of 39,000.

The coverage of coral communities in Dapeng Bay and Daya Bay is up to 50%, and the annual average concentration of PM2.5 is 23 ug per cubic meter; it also has the city-first AQI and excellence rate, close to the international first-class eco-city standard, and the best coastal seawater quality citywide and outstanding ecological resources index. True to its name, it is the green lung and back garden of Shenzhen.

Dapeng New District is located in the east of Shenzhen, where the road network has connected Dapeng with downtown Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Dongguan and Huizhou. Yantian-Bagang Highway and Xiping Expressway have put into service, shortening the time required to reach downtown Shenzhen to 30 minutes.

Industrial Advantages

Shenzhen is China's first national independent innovation model zone based on city as the basic unit, also listed among the first national bio-industry bases." Independent innovation" is the leading strategy for this city.

In 2009, Shenzhen started to focus on the development of the bio-industry by including it into the strategic emerging industry. In recent years, the annual growth rate of Shenzhen's bio-industry is 20 percent. In 2016, the industrial scale has exceeded 200 billion yuan, with a distinctive, advantageous range of segments emerged, including large-sized imaging equipment, biomedicine, gene sequencing and high-end medical treatment.

Presently, Dapeng New District has drawn 75 enterprises and 14 institutions into its two important industrial parks, creating an annual output of 800 million yuan. Dapeng has key projects such as China National GeneBank (CNGB), Rice Breeding Platform of China Academy of Agriculture Sciences, James Watson’s team, Nobel Prize laureate Marshall’s team, American academician Rozman and his team and Wang Rongfu’s Translational Medicine Research Institute. In the meantime, Guangdong Ocean University and Southern University of Science and Technology have established research institutes in the new district.

Dapeng has given great support to bio-pharmaceuticals, high-end medical services, biological breeding, marine biology, marine drugs, bio-environmental protection and other key bio-industry fields.

Education

Kindergartens, primary and high schools are provided in Dapeng New District. The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China (Shenzhen) is a full-time public school under Dapeng New District Management Committee and undertaken by the High School Affiliated Renmin University of China (RDFZ) and a member of RDFZ United School. It includes primary and junior sections (nine-year system), senior high school department and internationally cooperative education projects.
