1st Shenzhen Intangible Cultural Heritage Week

The First Shenzhen Intangible Cultural Heritage Week kicked off at the over 600-year-old Dapeng Fortress, Dapeng New Area on the evening of Oct. 18. The event marks the first time that Shenzhen has demonstrated its achievements in the protection of intangible cultural heritage on a large scale.

Officials of the city government and the Dapeng New District Management Commission as well as inheritors of intangible cultural heritage items attended the opening ceremony.

Hosted by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Week aimed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up and to promote the innovative transformation of fine traditional Chinese culture so as to better protect intangible cultural heritage items.

The week-long event was held across the city, covering a variety of activities including the demonstration of intangible cultural heritage practices, art performances, forums and competitions.
