Dapeng Fortress in Dapeng New District was selected for inclusion in the second batch of the provincial-level tourism and leisure block list, according to a notice recently announced by the Guangdong Provincial Culture and Tourism Department and the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

The fortress, a historic town with more than 600 years of history, is one of the nine tourist attractions in Guangdong that are included in the second batch of the provincial list. Nantou Ancient Town is another Shenzhen scenic spot on the list.

Dapeng New District has been fully committed in its efforts to conserve relics and integrate culture and tourism to push forward Dapeng Fortress to be awarded as a provincial block, and has laid a solid foundation for the new district to be named in the national tourism and leisure block list.

Data shows that Dapeng Fortress received 2.08 million visits in the first six months of this year, up 66.05% than the same period of last year.

This tourist attraction has gained popularity among tourists thanks to its profound history and culture, and unique human landscape. The old and new elements complement each other in this ancient town.

Dapeng Fortress is located in Pengcheng Community, with a history of over 600 years. It was built in the 27th year of the reign of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty (1394). It was a military stronghold for maritime defense during the Ming and Qing dynasties, from which Shenzhen got its nickname “Pengcheng.”
