Shenzhen initiated its third batch of 129 new construction projects for 2023 on June 30. Four of the projects are located in Dapeng New District, with a total investment of about 8.47 billion yuan (US$1.17 billion).

The four projects are: Phase I of Shenzhen Ocean University, Shenzhen Campus of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, the Baishigang area renovation project and Dapeng New District reservoirs renovation project.

The total investment of Phase I of Shenzhen Ocean University will be 6.53 billion yuan. The project, which covers an area of 401,200 square meters, will be located in the Baguang area. The high school project, with an investment of 253 million yuan, will cover an area of 20,400 square meters and set up 18 classes, providing 900 admissions.

Located along the coastline of Dapeng, Shenzhen Ocean University aims to attract specialized global talents and technological resources. The university is committed to establishing a top-notch marine technology research and development platform, providing talents support and technological assistance to accelerate the development of Dapeng as a hub for the global marine center city.

“We have been eagerly anticipating the establishment of Shenzhen Ocean University,” said a business leader from Baguang. “With the university being built, more things will follow, and more talents will be willing to come to Dapeng, which pushes for the marine industry’s development.”

The marine industry holds strategic significance for high-quality development. In addition to facilitating the establishment and construction of marine academic institutions, Dapeng is actively pushing a group of enterprises to explore areas such as marine biology, ocean ranching and deep-sea resource investigation, unleashing the potential within the region.

As the development of higher education institutions progresses, research platforms are established and crucial technologies continue to advance, Dapeng is experiencing a growing convergence of scientific and technological resources. This blending of “technology blue” drives the progress of the “ocean blue,” sparking new energy for Dapeng’s high-quality development, driven by its rich maritime cultural heritage.
