Event for national maritime day held at Qixing Bay

A commemorative event for the Maritime Day of China was held at Qixing Bay in Dapeng New District on July 11, aiming to accelerate the construction of a global marine center city and a world-class coastal ecotourism resort.

A captivating opening ceremony was held during the event, followed by lectures on maritime culture and knowledge. The lectures covered essential navigation skills and safety precautions. Xiong Fangzhi, director of the China Cup Regatta Organizing Committee Secretariat, provided a comprehensive overview of maritime activities from different regions around the world throughout history. Toward the end of the lectures, Xiong conducted live demonstrations on various ways to tie different kinds of maritime knots, igniting the participants’ enthusiasm to delve into maritime culture.

The event also incorporated a sailing trip to appreciate the natural beauty of the mountains and the ocean. Representatives from different industries gathered at the pier and boarded yachts to experience sailing. Furthermore, professionals offered hands-on explanations of hoisting and steering large sailboats, enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of the charm of maritime culture.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the event, noting that it not only enhanced their knowledge about navigation but also developed a stronger love and awareness of ocean conservation. They also expressed confidence in and anticipation for the implementation of Dapeng New District’s strategic vision to thrive as a flourishing coastal region.

For the second half of this year, Dapeng New District will host over 40 sporting events, according to the Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau of the new district. These include the 15th China Cup Regatta, the 2023 China Family Sailing Race and the 2023 “Student Cup” Shenzhen Sailing and Windsurfing Race. The new district hopes that through these events, more people in Shenzhen can get the opportunity to experience the immersive and engaging vibrant blue coastal lifestyle.
