Green activities collect 1,790 kg of waste in 2020

In 2020, the Dapeng Peninsula Outdoor Sports Safety and Environmental Protection Charity Fund initiated a series of activities titled “More Hiking, More Green.”

As of Dec. 28, a total of 12,927 yuan (US$ 1,996) had been raised online from 2,008 residents for the cause of environmental protection. In five editions of offline events, 523 volunteer hikers collected 1,790 kilograms of wastes on their hiking tours to Dongchong, Xichong, Shenzhen Bay Park, Egong Village, Xigong Village and Sanshuixian.

Established in July 2018, the Dapeng Peninsula Outdoor Sports Safety and Environmental Protection Charity Fund is a government-led, crowdfunding-based public welfare fund, in which every citizen and every business can become a donor, a participant and a beneficiary.

Within six months since its launch, the project had raised more than 1.3 million yuan through crowdfunding and hadsupported three projects, namely Outdoor Safety Master, Outdoor Knowledge Trail and Public Welfare Hike.

The Fund won the title of the“2018 Public Welfare Project of the Year” at the 8th China Public Welfare Festival held in Beijing in January 2019.

In August 2020, a launch ceremony for the “More Hiking, More Green”activities was held, after which members from sports organizations across the city participated in hiking tours to the Dongchong and Xichong coastlines, Wutong Mountain, Julong Hill Park and Shenzhen Bay Park to clean up beaches and mountains.

“This is another new attempt by our fund to provide a new platform for the public to participate in outdoor sports, support the environmental protection cause and spread positive energy,” The person in charge of the fund said, adding that the “Pick Up and Put Back Garbage Where It Belongs” program on the TencentPublic Welfare platform encourages the public to donate a certain amount of money ranging from 9.9 to 999 yuan to contribute to waste clean-up efforts.
