Drivers to Dapeng Peninsula and Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden for the May Day holiday can make reservations through Shenzhen traffic police’s WeChat account starting tomorrow, one week ahead of the five-day holiday, an official with Shenzhen's traffic police bureau said yesterday.

Drivers can also ask reservation assistance from the hotels and businesses in Dapeng. Drivers to Meisha area don’t need to make reservations, Feng Xinyi, vice head of Shenzhen traffic police bureau, said at a news conference.

Police data showed the vehicles to Dapeng between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the holiday could be three to four times the number on regular days.

To ensure smooth traffic during the holiday, police will enforce tailored methods on roads to parks.

“Drivers will be banned from parking vehicles on the roads around Lianhua Hill Park and OH Bay. Lianhua Hill Park parking lots will be closed to the public. Police will also impose traffic controls on roads around Coastal Ecological Park, Shenzhen Bay Park, Hongqiao Park and Gankeng Hakka Town,” Feng said.

Police will adopt flexible methods, like punishment exemption for first-time violators and for minor violations of nonlocal drivers with nonlocally registered vehicles unaware of local regulations.

During the holiday, police will be tougher on four types of violations like illegal parking causing traffic jams, DUI, speeding and overloading on expressways and e-bike violations, according to Feng.

Feng estimated that travel peak for vehicles leaving the city will arrive between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m April 30, and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 1 and 2. Around 500,000 vehicles will be on the road in Shenzhen.

Shenzhen Metro Group will extend service for one hour April 30, May 1 and 5. The service time of 18 bus routes that link with Metro stations will also be extended simultaneously, according to Xu Zhongping, deputy chief of the Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Bureau.

The bureau will also open 24 holiday bus routes linking the city’s eastern tourist attractions with the rest of the city.

“No reservations, no outings,” said Wu Zhiwei, deputy chief of the city’s tourism administration, adding that public cultural venues, sports venues and tourist attractions will be open to the public during the holiday, offering a variety of activities but will set quotas based on their crowd capacities.
