Recently, the Ministry of Education released the curriculum scheme and standards for elementary and secondary schools, requiring elementary and secondary schools to arrange for at least one session of housework, farm work or other forms of labor skills training per week starting this fall semester.
Schools in Dapeng New District are actively responding to the new policy by encouraging students to participate in housework chores like cleaning, cooking and bedmaking.
The Second Elementary School of Dapeng New District organized activities such as buying vegetables, cooking dishes and making dumplings for students to encourage student to engage more in housework and be more responsible.
Students at Shenzhen Middle School at BYD have been taking part in household chores as much as they could, including cleaning, bedmaking, cooking and baking. Some students even challenged themselves for more demanding work such as hairdressing, repairing bicycles and carpentry.
Xichong Elementary School organized a series of educational activities to promote the necessity of labor skills trainings. The school had also guided students in cooking, organizing bookshelves, washing clothes, planting, picking vegetables and repairing skills.
Xichong Second Elementary School has organized a weekly sweep upon campus in which teachers and students all participate. Students are evaluated on their performance during the labor skills work.
