The Baguang Ecology International Hotel will be used as a dormitory building for Shenzhen Ocean University, which will enroll its first batch of 200 students this September.

At a meeting Tuesday, Lin Jian, a professor from the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), which is commissioned to prepare for Shenzhen Ocean University’s construction, said the university’s construction officially started in April after the city government’s approval.

Lin, who has conducted ocean research for over 30 years in MIT in the U.S., said the university will cultivate ocean-related high-end talents, develop deep cooperation with ocean-related leading enterprises and push Shenzhen’s ocean economy’s leapfrog development.

The university will have 10,000 students on campus when it is in full capacity.
