On May 21, the 7th “Centuries-old Intangible Cultural Heritage in Dapeng” cultural event kicked off at Dapeng Fortress in Dapeng Subdistrict, Dapeng New District, which included performances featuring various local folk customs in Dapeng and intangible cultural heritages in the area.

The event began with a wedding custom performance that reenacted the customs of the bridegroom meeting the bride at her home, the bride being escorted to the bridegroom’s home, and the worshipping of ancestors.

Following the performance, a piece of Dapeng Mountain Song and many other intangible cultural heritage performances wowed the audience. The Dapeng Mountain Song was inscribed on the provincial intangible cultural heritage list by Guangdong Province in 2012, and the performers on stage were all local residents with an average age of 65.

Dapeng Subdistrict boasts a wide range of cultural heritages of Hakka and Guangfu people, a military garrison, and boat dwellers. In order to better preserve and maintain the inheritance of the intangible cultural heritages in Dapeng Fortress, and to showcase Dapeng's intangible cultural heritages and local culture in all aspects, Dapeng Subdistrict launched the “Centuries-old Intangible Cultural Heritage in Dapeng” event in April 2015.Through exhibitions, parades, and interactive shows, Dapeng’s history and cultural charms are fully displayed to residents and tourists.
