The Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory upgraded its typhoon alert level from white to blue in Nanshan, Futian, Luohu and Yantian districts as well as Dapeng New District and several areas in Bao’an District at 9 a.m. yesterday as a tropical cyclone is getting closer to the city.

Shenzhen has a five-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, blue and white.

Although the low pressure storm will not land directly in Shenzhen, it will bring rains along with mighty gale winds.

Today, the city will see intermittent showers with regional downpours while heavy rains will affect the city tomorrow and Friday, according to the observatory.
