Located in Dapeng Peninsula in the east of Shenzhen, Dapeng Subdistrict is advantaged with its beautiful mountain and sea scenery, unique marine resources, and ecological environment. Dapeng Subdistrict (hereinafter referred to as "Dapeng") covers a total area of 76.24 square kilometers. There are 33 resident groups in 7 communities under the jurisdiction of the Dapeng Subdistrict Office, namely, Wangmu, Pengcheng, Shuitou, Buxin, Ling'ao, Xiasha, and Dapeng. This subdistrict is famous for its beautiful coastal and mountain scenery, with a well-preserved ecological system, forest coverage of 76%, and a coastline of about 31 km.
Dapeng is a famous tourist destination. Dapeng Fortress is a national key cultural relics protection site, from which Shenzhen got its nickname "Pengcheng." Jiaochangwei Coastal Resort Area is a tourist destination nationally renowned for its B&Bs. Besides, there are popular tourist attractions, such as Jinsha Bay, Huanlongqi Bay, International Wedding Expo Park, Dongshan Temple, and Longyan Ancient Temple.
Dapeng is a key energy origin. There are a number of key energy projects at national, provincial and municipal levels, such as Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant, Lingdong Nuclear Power Plant, Ling'ao Nuclear Power Station, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Receiving Station, Shenzhen Energy East Power Plant, and Fuhuade Power Plant. So far, an industrial system and economic structure dominated by large enterprises and energy industries have thus been established in the subdistrict.
Dapeng is a scientific research base. There is the world's third and China's first national gene bank, the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and other biological research institutions. Meanwhile, the Agricultural Science Group's Agricultural Demonstration Baseand the Marine Bio-Industry Science and Technology Park have contributed to the rapid development of high-tech industries in Dapeng.
Dapeng is a human culture booster. Yuan Geng was born and grew up there. As a pioneer of reform and the founder of the "Shekou Model" for reform and opening up, he is an embodiment of the spirit of Dapeng. This kind of spirit can also be found in modern generals such as Liu Qilong, Lai Enjue, and the anti-Japanese invasion hero, Liu Heizai.
Dapeng is the hometown of numerous overseas Chinese. There are about 13,000 Hong Kong compatriots, Macao compatriots and overseas Chinese in Dapeng. Currently, there are five overseas Chinese organizations, including New York Dapeng Association, Dapeng Yuying Society, and Hong Kong Dapeng Association.
