In 1943, the Dongjiang Column conducted its first training session for young and middle-aged officers in the mansion of General Lai Enjue, eventually holding seven sessions with over 100 participants each. Tourists can also visit other sites like Liu Heizai’s former residence and  exhibitions that explore the patriotic history of China.

Dongshan Temple

Rebuilt three times in the last six centuries, the Dongshan Temple complex includes several buildings, including the Grand Hall and the temple of the Goddess of Mercy. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the temple became the site of the seventh branch of the Military and Political University of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, which produced notable figures such as Lai Zhongyuan and Liu Heizai.

Yuan Geng’s Ancestral Residence

Shuibei Village, situated at the foot of Luogu Mountain, is the hometown of Yuan Geng, a trailblazer in China’s reform and opening up. In 2021, it was listed as a practice base for learning the “four histories” — histories of the Communist Party of China (CPC), New China, reform and opening up, and socialist development. Yuan joined the CPC in his youth, later served as the head of the Dongjiang Column’s liaison division, and played a key role in the rescue of renowned literary figures such as Zou Taofen and Mao Dun.

Dongjiang Column Evacuation Memorial Park

This park is an important revolutionary memorial site and a patriotic education base in Shenzhen dedicated to commemorating the historic retreat of the Dongjiang Column to Shandong Province during the revolution.
