Open-water marathon swim for National Games to be held in Dapeng
From:Shenzhen DailyUpdated:2025-07-03

China’s first-ever open-water marathon swimming competition during the 15th National Games will take place on Nov. 5 and 6 at Nan’ao’s Juediaosha Beach in Dapeng New District. Over 100 athletes will brave the waves in this ecological gem known as the “glass sea,” marking a milestone in the 66-year history of the Games.

The 15th National Games will be hosted across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with Shenzhen overseeing 12 events, including badminton, swimming, and football.

The 10-kilometer marathon swim will be the first held under natural seawater conditions at the Games. It will test both the athletes’ endurance and the city’s emergency response systems.

A recent 135-minute multi-department drill simulated various crisis scenarios, including gale-force winds (levels 8–9) disrupting races, mountain fires near event hotels, power and communication outages, and food safety incidents. More than 120 personnel executed air-sea rescues, emergency medical transfers, and traffic control, showcasing Dapeng’s effective cross-agency coordination.

“Dapeng’s mountain and sea resources, combined with its emergency preparedness, make it the ideal ‘all-rounder’ to deliver this historic event,” said a Games organizer.

Additional drills focusing on weather, IT, and food safety will further fine-tune protocols ahead of the November competition.
