Dapeng New District is set to get its first Metro connection as Phase III of Shenzhen Metro Line 8 moves closer to completion, the iDapeng WeChat account announced recently.
On June 24 and 26, engineers successfully powered up both high-voltage and low-voltage systems — commonly referred to as achieving “dual electrification” — at the Xichong Station and its associated depot. The 35kV and 400V systems now provide stable power for testing vital infrastructure such as ventilation, lighting, and communications. Dual power-on marks a critical milestone for Phase III of Line 8 and clears the way for full system integration and train testing.
Phase III of Line 8 extends the metro line from Xiaomeisha Station to Xichong Station in Dapeng New District, adding nearly 3.7 kilometers of underground track, one new station, and a major vehicle depot. When operational, the extension will connect seamlessly with existing segments of Lines 2 and 8, forming a cross-city metro artery stretching approximately 63.75 kilometers with 43 stations.
The route will run through key districts, including Nanshan, Futian, Luohu, Yantian, and Dapeng, significantly enhancing transport access to Shenzhen’s less-connected eastern coastline.
