The National Development and Reform Commission officially released the first list of high-quality outdoor sports destinations Oct. 24, with Dapeng Peninsula making the list.
This achievement reflects Shenzhen’s systematic integration of premium natural resources, including the Dapeng Peninsula, Maluan Mountain – Wutong Mountain trails, Kunpeng Trail, and coastal cycling routes. It underscores the city’s commitment to building a new model of outdoor sports development that seamlessly connects mountains, sea, and urban areas—showcasing a modern international metropolis thriving in harmony with nature.

The Dapeng Peninsula, with 77% forest coverage, a 125-kilometer coastline, and 48 sandy beaches, offers an exceptional natural foundation for outdoor activities. Its Dongchong and Xichong coastline has been recognized as one of “China’s Top Eight Most Beautiful Coasts.” Through systematic planning, Shenzhen has developed an extensive network of 257 km of greenways, 152.5 km of wilderness trails, and 106 km of coastal cycling routes, creating ideal conditions for hiking, cycling, trail running, and more.
The peninsula also supports diverse water sports such as sailing and surfing, while its extensive low-altitude airspace allows for paragliding and skydiving.

Major sporting events play a key role in promoting outdoor culture. The China Cup Regatta, held for 16 consecutive years, attracted over 200 teams from 30 countries in 2024. Events like the Ring of Dapeng 100 Coastal Trail Run and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Marine Dragon Boat Race draw more than 8 million participants annually, boosting local tourism and consumption.
Looking ahead, Shenzhen aims to develop Dapeng Peninsula into a world-class destination integrating land, sea, and air activities—from hiking and water sports to stargazing in Shenzhen’ first International Dark Sky Community. Dapeng is poised to become a premier hub for nature and adventure enthusiasts.
