The hospital is operated by Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital, one of the city’s earliest Level 3 Grade A hospitals — China’s highest hospital tier. It is known for its strengths in neurosurgery, orthopedics, and burn treatment. Many patients treated in those specialties require subsequent rehabilitation, and Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital previously had only 68 rehabilitation beds. The new Dapeng Hospital will dedicate half of its 2,000 beds to rehabilitation, helping meet demand from Shenzhen and the broader Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. The facility is equipped with advanced technologies, such as rehabilitation robots, and plans to implement brain–computer interface applications comprehensively.According to the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, the city currently faces a shortage of more than 2,000 rehabilitation beds.

China’s hospitals are divided into public and private institutions. Public hospitals, which receive government funding, are classified into three levels based on size, research capability, equipment, and other criteria.Level 3 Grade A is the highest tier. Level 1 institutions, like community health service centers, provide basic services such as vaccinations and wound care. Public hospitals in China are nonprofit and generally more affordable.
