About 150 mu (100,000 square meters) of rapeseed flowers have come into bloom at a research base operated by the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Dapeng New Area, creating a vivid spring landscape that combines natural beauty with agricultural research.

Located within the institute’s Shenzhen Comprehensive Experimental Base, the fields have turned a bright golden yellow, attracting residents and visitors who come to photograph the seasonal display.
Beyond their scenic appeal, the rapeseed fields also serve a scientific purpose. The base functions as a platform for agricultural biotechnology innovation and crop breeding research. The rapeseed plants are used both as green manure during the winter fallow season to improve soil fertility and as living samples for studies on high yield, high oil content and disease resistance.
Researchers say the project demonstrates how agricultural research sites can simultaneously support ecological improvement, soil restoration and scientific experimentation while offering seasonal landscapes for the public to enjoy.
