Traditional fishing songs bring maritime heritage to coastal attractions
From:Shenzhen DailyUpdated:2026-09-02

Dapeng recently hosted a cultural performance showcasing Dongshan Fishing Songs, a local form of intangible cultural heritage, bringing traditional maritime culture to life in a coastal tourism setting.

The event combined traditional performances, folk customs, local food and interactive activities. Classic Dongshan fishing songs were performed alongside scenes depicting traditional fishing life, while folk acts including clapper talk, face-changing and acrobatics were also staged.

Interactive activities included a fishing-song knowledge quiz and singing sessions. Children from outside the area joined local performers to learn the songs, while visitors could sample traditional fishing-village cuisine, try shadow puppetry and make other handicrafts.

Dongshan Fishing Songs are recognized as a city-level intangible cultural heritage. Dongshan Community has in recent years organized regular rehearsals and public classes to train younger performers, while working with universities to explore new ways of promoting the tradition.

The community has staged 12 fishing-song performances and related events so far in 2026, according to local authorities.
