Dapeng to expand electric boats, smart water sports
From:Shenzhen DailyUpdated:2026-09-04

Dapeng plans to build a comprehensive industry ecosystem for electric boats and smart water sports equipment under an action plan recently issued by the Shenzhen municipal government.

By 2030, all navigable docks on the peninsula are expected to have shore power facilities, along with 200 new public yacht berths and 150 charging facilities for electric boats. The area is expected to have 400 registered electric boats and 1,000 yachts, generating 80,000 electric-boat trips annually and serving about 960,000 visitors per year.

To make water activities more accessible, authorities plan to introduce yacht-and-hotel or yacht-and-homestay packages, consumer vouchers, time-based rentals and shared boat trips. Electric water sports, including hydrofoiling, underwater vehicles, water scooters and surfboards, will be introduced at selected coastal areas, alongside new sightseeing routes linking popular bays and beaches.

Dapeng also plans to attract international water-sports events, including an international electric hydrofoil tour and potentially the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge.

A smart yacht-management platform and a maritime emergency response network with a 30-minute response time will also be developed. The district plans to attract three to five leading companies by 2027, with the related industry reaching 15 billion yuan (US$2.1 billion). By 2030, it aims to host more than 20 global electric-boat brands and become an Asia-Pacific service hub for electric boats.

In the longer term, the district targets an industry scale of 150 billion yuan by 2035, with related industries exceeding 800 billion yuan, as it works with coastal areas in western Shenzhen to build a world-class marine industry cluster.
