From:Shenzhen DailyUpdated:2026-10-13

A total of 73 fifth-grade students took part in a hands-on farming activity at a farm in Nan’ao, Dapeng, learning about corn cultivation and seasonal farming traditions.

The activity was organized by Nan’ao Subdistrict in partnership with Nan’ao Central Primary School and Xinda Community. Students learned about corn’s structure, growth cycle, nutritional value and role in agriculture, then shared what they had learned with their classmates.

Guided by veteran volunteers and farm staff, the students put their lessons into practice, completing tasks including loosening soil, sowing seeds, covering them with soil and watering the plots. They also interacted with small farm animals.

The activity was part of Nan’ao’s “Learn the Solar Terms, Learn Farming” program, which introduces children to traditional agricultural practices through seasonal fieldwork. Organizers said the program aims to help students better understand farming and the rhythms of the seasons through direct experience.

At the end of the event, students received steamed corn to take home and share with their families.
