New traffic measure for Meisha and Dapeng Peninsula aims to ease congestion during extended holiday periods in 2025.

Travelers planning to visit Shenzhen's popular eastern coastal areas during this year's national holidays and weekends will need to book their vehicle slots in advance, according to a new announcement from the Shenzhen Traffic Police Bureau.

The "reservation-only" traffic management policy will be in effect from May 1 to Oct. 8, 2025, covering all weekends and public holidays within that period. The measure targets two key tourist destinations: the Meisha area (including Dameisha and Xiaomeisha beaches and OCT East) and the Dapeng Peninsula.

The policy is designed to "ensure overall road safety, order, and smooth flow" in these frequently congested areas. Without a prior booking, drivers of private cars risk being fined for violating traffic restrictions.

Here’s what drivers need to know:

Who Needs to Book?

All 9-seat and smaller private cars.

How to Book?

Reservations can be made successfully through the official WeChat account of Shenzhen Traffic Police or the  爱大鹏  (iDapeng) WeChat account.

Key Areas:

Meisha Area: The zone encompasses all roads within a defined area, including exits from the HuShen Coastal Expressway to Dameisha and Xiaomeisha.

Dapeng Peninsula: All roads south of and including the Diefushan Tunnel.

Exemptions: The rule does not apply to public buses, taxis, ride-hailing services, trucks, emergency vehicles, or passenger vans with 10 seats or more. Vehicles simply passing through on the HuShen Coastal Expressway without exiting are also exempt.

Flexibility: Once a vehicle enters the zone at its reserved time, it can leave at any time.

The Shenzhen Traffic Police Bureau advises all travelers to plan ahead and follow the new regulations to avoid penalties and ensure a pleasant trip. The full announcement was issued on April 21, 2025, with the measures taking effect on May 1, 2025.
