Nearly 200 teams of more than 1,200 sailors from over 30 countries and regions set sail at the 15th China Cup International Regatta (CCIR) 2023 at Daya Bay in Dapeng New District on Nov. 3. The race was launched Nov. 2 and will last through Nov. 6.
In an exhilarating display of teamwork, skills and cultural heritages, the 2023 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Maritime Dragon Boat Race started in the waters off Yueliang Bay in Nan’ao Subdistrict, Dapeng New District, on June 20, when 18 teams and cheering spectators turned the tranquil, picturesque the bay into a vibrant arena of fierce battles.
The delayed regatta opened Friday off the waters of Daya Bay in Dapeng Peninsula, and concluded yesterday. Sailors from 100 teams competed in five categories, specifically Beneteau First 40.7, J80, Fareast 23R, IRC and Topper (youths).
Initiated in Shenzhen in 2007, the CCIR is the first international regatta event in Chinese history and the only event of its kind named “China Cup.” It has now developed into an international sailing event ranking first in Asia and third in the world in terms of popularity and influence.

This year, thanks to the efforts towards preserving the local environment, Shenzheners are treated with the dreamy scenes of roaming fireflies at Xichong community, Nan’ao, on the Dapeng Peninsula.
Dapeng is beautiful. It is not picturesque in a traditional way but it is a place that grows on you. It is a place that enthralls you with its bustling alleys, the aroma of fresh local cuisine, the colorful ice cream and juice parlors, the contemporary cafés, the lovely promenade, and lots of activities like tourist boats, jet skis, paragliding and those crazy inflatables to name a few. In a word, Dapeng is “charming.”
On Jan. 1, 2022, expats in Shenzhen and foreign tourists visited Dapeng Fortress in Dapeng New District to celebrate the New Year with locals. They experienced traditional intangible cultural heritage events such as Kylin Dance and a Chinese wedding custom.
