McDonald's transforms Shenzhen into 'McDonaldland' paradise

As the city where McDonald’s first planted its flag on the Chinese mainland 35 years ago, Shenzhen is taking center stage in the fast-food giant’s nationwide “McDonaldland” summer campaign. Along with 12 other Chinese cities, Shenzhen’s flagship McDonaldland locations have launched the “I’m off to McDonaldland!” theme, transforming restaurants and iconic cityscapes into immersive vacation destinations.

12,000 drones, light show illuminate SZ for 45th anniversary

In a spectacular celebration marking the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (Shenzhen SEZ), the city’s skyline was transformed by a groundbreaking 12,000-drone light show tonight. The unprecedented event featured a 30-minute drone performance and a one-hour light show across two main venues: Shenzhen Civic Center in Futian District and Shenzhen Talent Park in Nanshan District. Beyond the two main venues, the celebration also extended throughout the city, with landmarks in different districts, Dapeng New District, the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone and the Qianhai cooperation zone participating in the light and shadow spectacle.

International school in Dapeng celebrates 10th birthday

Hikers fined for illegally scaling mountain amid typhoon

Dapeng New District in Shenzhen issued the country’s first statutory penalty under a comprehensive natural-disaster regulation Aug. 15 after two hikers entered a temporarily designated danger zone during a typhoon alert. Each hiker was fined 5,000 yuan (about US$696).

Scientists: Tomato is 'mother' of potato

Scientists have made a surprising discovery revealing that an ancient genetic union approximately 9 million years ago gave rise to the potato, which is now the world's third-largest staple crop. Remarkably, the tomato has been identified as the maternal ancestor of the potato. The study was conducted by a research team from the Agricultural Genomics Institute in Shenzhen under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (AGIS-CAAS) in Dapeng New District,alongside a researcher from Lanzhou University, in collaboration with scientists from Canada and the U.K.

Regulation mulled for safe leisure cycling

Shenzhen plans to introduce a regulation governing the construction and management of leisure cycling paths, as well as to specify speed limits for cyclists on these paths, in order to create a safe, orderly, comfortable, and civilized cycling environment. The city's urban management bureau is now soliciting public opinion on a draft regulation.
