Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory upgraded the alert for Typhoon Saola, the ninth typhoon of the year, from orange to red, the most severe warning in China’s five-tier typhoon warning system, at 2 p.m. today.
Super Typhoon Saola is anticipated to pass close by the southern sea area of Hong Kong from late tonight to the early morning of tomorrow, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said in a social media post at around 9:30 p.m.
The Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory upgraded the blue alert for Super Typhoon Saola to yellow at 6 p.m. In response to the typhoon, coastal attractions and the observatory in Dapeng New District have been closed for safety.
Fishing boats set sail from Shuangyong Harbor at Moon Bay in Nan’ao Subdistrict in Dapeng New District on Wednesday, as the seasonal fishing ban in the South China Sea ended the same day.
